Antique Elgin Pocket Watch, 1903, 15 Jewels, Ornate Defiance Case, Everyday Carry, Collectible Timepiece

$239.00

A Beautiful Elgin Workhorse — 1903

Some pocket watches try very hard to impress.

This one doesn’t need to.

Here is a beautifully preserved early-1900s Elgin pocket watch with an honest, dependable 15-jewel movement, an exceptionally clean dial, and a wonderfully ornate Defiance case. It has exactly the kind of classic American pocket-watch character that makes these old mechanical watches so enjoyable to own.

The dial is remarkably clean and bright, with elegant black Arabic numerals, red minute markings, and a subsidiary seconds register at 6 o’clock. The crystal is exceptionally clear—almost mint—and lets the dial show beautifully.

The case adds just the right amount of character. It features extensive floral and foliate engraving, decorative borders, an engraved cartouche, and an unusually attractive ornate bow. There is some minor honest wear from its long life, but no dents, and the case remains crisp and handsome.

Inside is an very clean Elgin Grade 220, Model 6, 16-size, 15-jewel movement, serial 9716659, dating to approximately 1903.

The movement has been inspected and cleaned and is running nicely. It winds smoothly and sets very easily.
