A beautiful and remarkably well-preserved 1905 Elgin Grade 336 pocket watch, representing the craftsmanship that made the Elgin National Watch Company one of America’s most respected watch manufacturers.
This handsome 18 Size, 17-jewel hand-wound movement runs exceptionally well, winds smoothly, sets precisely, and keeps reliable time. The movement remains remarkably clean with beautifully preserved damaskeening and crisp engraving, reflecting more than a century of careful ownership.
The movement was carefully inspected internally and intentionally left untouched because it is running exceptionally well. Preserving a correctly functioning original movement is often preferable to unnecessary intervention, helping maintain its originality, reliability, and long-established performance.
The original porcelain dial presents beautifully with bright enamel and crisp black numerals. A single fine hairline extends from the 12 o’clock position and has been fully documented in the photographs. It remains stable and is only noticeable upon close inspection.
The original blued steel hands remain in excellent condition and provide wonderful contrast against the porcelain dial.
The Keystone base metal case displays attractive age-appropriate wear while retaining its decorative engine-turned bezel and handsome overall appearance. Inside the case back remain a few very old fingerprints from a prior servicing many decades ago. These marks have become part of the original surface over time and have intentionally been left untouched as part of the watch’s documented history and originality.
The crystal is exceptionally clear with only minimal signs of use, allowing the dial to be enjoyed without distraction.
